Office of Civil Rights Enforcement Files Anti-Discrimination Lawsuit against Miami Restaurant 04/15/2014
Allegations include sexual harassment and discrimination of victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence
OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Scott Pruitt filed an anti-discrimination lawsuit Tuesday against a Miami restaurant and its owner over allegations of sexual harassment of employees. The targets of the harassment include women who were living in a shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. The lawsuit is the first legal action filed by the newly formed Office of Civil Rights Enforcement (OCRE).

Attorney General Pruitt Cautions Oklahomans About Tax and Rebate Scams 04/11/2014
OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Scott Pruitt Friday warned Oklahomans about tax and rebate scams that have netted criminals billions of dollars in bogus federal tax refunds.
“These criminals take advantage of Oklahomans who are simply trying to file their tax returns,” Attorney General Pruitt said. “If something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Staying alert and being cautious can help prevent costly mistakes.”
The schemes involve consumers getting a call or an e-mail claiming to be from the IRS, the Social Security Administration, or some other government agency.

Oklahoma DA Investigator Named the 2014 Recipient of the Brad Edwards Consumer Champion Award 04/01/2014
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Attorney General’s Office Tuesday honored David Michael Cathey with the 2014 Brad Edwards Consumer Champion Award for his work to protect Oklahoma consumers from fraud.
Cathey, of Durant, is a fraud investigator for the District 19 District Attorney’s Office, which covers Atoka, Bryan and Coal counties. He also helps foster regional and statewide networking among law enforcement and other professionals to investigate fraud through the Texoma chapter of the MAFIA (Metro Area Fraud Investigators).

Free Document Shredding Tuesday at the AG’s Office for Oklahoma Consumer Protection Day 03/28/2014
OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Scott Pruitt and MIDCON Data Services® will be providing free document shredding on Tuesday at the Attorney General’s Office during Oklahoma Consumer Protection Day. Free shredding will be available for the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the west side parking lot of the AG’s Office at 313 NE 21.
